AirAsia inaugurates Makassar routes

Low cost carrier AirAsia Indonesia on Tuesday expanded into eastern Indonesia with direct flights from Jakarta and Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, to Makassar, South Sulawesi, beginning Dec. 17.

"As the year is ending, we are proudly launching our sixth hub in Indonesia, located in Makassar. We will start with Balikpapan - Makassar and Jakarta - Makassar routes, twice a day," Air Asia Indonesia president director Dharmadi said.

Dharmadi added that the company had two Airbus A320 aircraft to serve the routes from and to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar.

Makassar is one of the major trade and tourism hubs in eastern Indonesia, "that is why, we are optimistic that the new routes will boost the local economy and tourism, as well as opening new jobs for local people," he said.

The company is offering promotional fare starting from Rp 0 (US$0) for bookings made from Tuesday to Nov. 26 for travel between Dec 17 and Sept. 30 2013. (cor/swd)
