Garuda Indonesia’s president director Emirsyah Satar said on Thursday that the airline would team up with Canada-based Bombardier Inc. to build a maintenance and repair center in Indonesia.

It followed the closing of a deal to buy Bombardier aircraft.

The center would be important to support Garuda's operations and to expand its business by maintaining and repairing aircraft from the Asia-Pacific region, he said.

But Emirsyah declined to comment on the estimated costs and what types of aircraft would be served by the center.

“We've agreed to the plan and now our team is working on the details. We expect to get a detailed plan within three months,” he told The Jakarta Post via text message.

On Wednesday, the firms signed a contract to purchase 18 CRJ 1000 NextGen jets at the Singapore Airshow. Garuda has the option to buy another 18.

In addition to the CRJ, or Canadian Regional Jet, series which has a capacity of up to 100 seats, Bombardier also has other products including the larger narrow-body CSeries in the 100-149 seat class, the Q400 NextGen twin turboprops that can seat 78 passengers and various business jets.
