Emirates adds second A380 flight in New York

Emirates Airline has added a second A380 flight at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

With twice daily service, Emirates will have another 2,000 seats available per week on its flights to Dubai.

Travelers will have a choice of a morning flight and an evening departure on the Airbus aircraft. From Dubai, Emirates offers connections to 128 destinations in 74 countries.

Thierry Antinori, Emirates' executive vice president of passenger sales worldwide, said in a written statement that adding the second flight "is a clear indication of customer demand for the state-of-the-art aircraft and this popular destination."

"New York is an important route for Emirates and its customers," he said. "Adding larger capacity aircraft is central to helping us meet growing passenger demand and will also boost economic support for American international commerce."

Emirates has the world's largest fleet of A380 aircraft. The Dubai-based airline has 31 A380s with another 59 on order.

Today in the Sky recently toured Emirates' A380. The first-class cabin had showers and a bar in addition to high-tech in-flight entertainment.

Emirates also on Tuesday inaugurated Dubai International Airport's first concourse dedicated entirely to the A380.

The new concourse will be part of the airport's Terminal 3 complex.

Dubai Airports served 60 million passengers in 2012. The new concourse will be able to handle another 15 million passengers a year.

The new concourse will have direct lounge boarding for first and business class travelers. It will also have expansive duty-free shipping, food courts, sit-down restaurants, a spa and lounges. There will also be a dedicated hotel floor.
