Virgin Australia warns flyers of email scam

Virgin Australia is warning travellers over a spate of fake emails which appear to be sent by the airline but "may contain a virus or other harmful software such as spyware."

The fake emails claim to contain information on Virgin Australia travel itineraries, however the airline says "we advise customers not to open emails claiming to be Virgin Australia itineraries if they do not have travel booked in the immediate future."

Two give-aways that these emails are as a phony as three dollar bill: they're addressed from Virgin Blue rather than Virgin Australia, and they contain a file attachment ending in 'PDF.zip'

"Customers with any questions relating to their travel should contact Virgin Australia on 13 67 89" the airline suggests.

The fake Virgin Australia itinerary emails follow a similar set of emails which did the rounds earlier this week, purporting to be from Qantas regarding payment of a seat selection fee.
