Kuala Namu airport in N. Sumatra nearly finished

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DELI SERDANG - The building of Kuala Namu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatera, has reached 90 percent. It is scheduled to be inaugurated in March 2013.
"This big and lofty airport is expected to be operated in time," the Chairman of Kuala Namu Airport Project, Joko Waskito, said on Friday.

He explained that the 1,365 hectare airport had 118,930 meter square of terminal area, 50,820 meter square of parking lot, and 13,000 meter square of cargo garage. The terminal can hold up to 8,1 million pax per year.

"The airport is also equipped with sophisticated equipment," he said.

Technical Coordinator of Angkasa Pura II, Bambang Hermanto, explained that the interior of the airport adopted the culture and natural resources of Sumatera. The pattern of the floor is similar to ulos, the traditional cloth.

"The airport is also using the concept of energy savings. It does not need lamps during the day," Hermanto said.
