US hopes the next APEC meeting in North Sumatra

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN – The United States hoped North Sumatra could host for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2013 as it had promising economic potency. Assistant of Secretary of State for Southeast Asia, Joseph Yun, said that on Friday when he met caretaker Governor of North Sumatra, Gatot Pujo Nugroho, in Medan.

Gatot explained the opportunities on economy and investment in North Sumatra regarding with the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development (MP3EI). The area is developing strategic projects as Indonesian economic corridor in western area.

North Sumatra has Sei Mangke Economic Area in Simalungun to produce the subsidiary industry of crude palm oil. The province also develops rubber cluster in Sei Bamban. To support the transportation, Kualanamu airport in Deli Serdang is prepared.

“I will deliver all the explanation. Andrew Herrup (the Senior Official of US Ministry for Foreign Affairs to Indonesia) and I will make an effort for Medan to be the host of APEC 2013,” Yun said.
