Irkut elects Oleg Demchenko as new president

Russia’s Irkut Corp. has elected United Aircraft Corp. (UAC) SVP Oleg Demchenko as its president and chairman following the early resignation of Alexey Fedorov, UAC said in a statement.

Irkut said its board of directors allowed Demchenko to combine the post of its president and chairman with the post of general director, general designer of Yakovlev Design Bureau.

Demchenko was Irkut’s president from 2005-2011. During that time, the manufacturer launched jet trainer/light attack Yak-130 and passenger narrowbody MS-21 projects. The MS-21 will operate its first flight in 2015; first deliveries are planned for 2017. Irkut’s backlog includes 185 firm orders and options for the MS-21 (ATW Daily News, July 10).
