HONG KONG-Cathay Pacific (CX) has boosted its presence in the Latin American market due to an extended codeshare agreement with oneworld alliance partner, American Airlines (AA).
The expanded agreement allows the CX code to be placed on AA's daily services on the New York – Sao Paulo and New York – Rio de Janeiro routes. Tickets for the codeshare services are now open for sale for flights commencing December 5.
“Brazil is now one of the biggest markets in Latin America and an increasingly important centre for business, manufacturing, tourism and trade. This new codeshare will boost Cathay Pacific’s presence in Latin America, and we look forward to carrying more tourists and business people from Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific region to Brazil,” said the airline's director of sales and marketing, Rupert Hogg.
With Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in its network, Cathay now connects to a total of 25 destinations in the Americas through codeshare arrangements with AA.
This is the second codeshare announcement in a week. On November 22, Cathay expanded its codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines, which added eight Japanese cities to Cathay's network.
