Lion Air Launches New Routes From Bandung

Budget carrier Lion Air on Tuesday began servicing a new daily route out of Bandung in West Java, to and from Surabaya.

Another new flight route, between Bandung and Denpasar in Bali, will be serviced beginning on Wednesday.

The routes will be served with the airline’s new Boeing B737-800 NG planes, the company said.

The new flights will leave Bandung for Surabaya at 4:10 p.m., while the Surabaya-Bandung flights leave at 11:10 a.m. Starting on Wednesday, flights from Bandung to Denpasar will leave at 11:20 a.m., while the return flight will leave Surabaya at 2:45 p.m.

Edward Sirait, the president of Lion Air, said incoming passengers from Surabaya would be able to continue on via connecting routes to destinations such as Kendari (South Sulawesi), Manado (North Sulawesi), Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan) and Palangkaraya (Central Kalimantan).

Edward said the Boeing jets serving the new routes were part of the 408 aircrafts ordered by the airline from Boeing. He added that the airline will continue to develop other flights out of Bandung in the near future, such as to Medan.

Lion Air is also developing regional routes out of Bandung, such as to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, he said.
