Austin Reid strengthens Air Berlin PLC Board

Austin Reid will strengthen the Board of Directors of Air Berlin PLC with immediate effect as a non-executive director. He replaces the non-executive director Andreas Nikolaus (Niki) Lauda who has left the Board of Air Berlin PLC in order to be able to devote more to his role as Chairman of the Board of the Mercedes Formula 1 team.
“Austin Reid is a boost for the Board of Directors of Air Berlin PLC. He will make an important contribution to the strategic direction of the company with his many years of experience in the industry. The Board thanks Niki Lauda for his committed, stimulating work for the benefit of the company“, according to Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Air Berlin PLC.
Austin Reid, 67, has many years of industry experience and has built up the British airline bmi to become one of the leading airlines in Great Britain. He started his career with KPMG in New York. In 1975, he started at Hertz Corporation and rose to become Vice President of Finance for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. After ten years, he moved to bmi, where he was employed as CEO until 2005. In the subsequent years, he remained closely associated with aviation in his role as a consultant.
