TAP flight TP052 from Belo Horizonte
arrived in Lisbon at 11:08 am on 24 December, Christmas Eve, carrying
the airline’s 10 millionth passenger in 2012, a number never before
achieved in a full year of operations.
According to Fernando Pinto“TAP and its employees are to be congratulated because these results were only made possible by their efforts, dedication and professionalism”. The airline’s chief executive officer reminds us that “an airline lives for its customers. It is for them that we work every day, and it is our customers I want to thank for the trust they have placed in us, helping us, in a business fraught with difficulties – one in which many do not survive, to become better and better at meeting their expectations”. “We must also give due credit to travel agents and our other business partners because in commercial aviation and in tourism success can only be achieved by working together” says Fernando Pinto.
In 2011, TAP carried atotalof 9,752,000 passengers. By the end of the day on 24 December, TAP had reached 10,018,974 passengers, 4.4% more than the number achieved by the same day the year before.
In 2012, to date, TAP’s best results in absolute terms were on the European routes, where TAP carried 300,000 more passengers than in 2011. In relative terms, the best results were achieved in the United States sector, where growth was 19.3% (due to the recent opening of theMiamiroute) and on connections to Africa, where growth was 10.4%. As for the Brazilian routes, where TAP flies to ten different cities, these flights showed the best overall occupancy rates at approximately 83%.
