Sunday 16 December, 2012: Christmas has come early to Sydney Airport
today with the arrival of a new Tiger Airways A320 aircraft which will
now call Sydney home. Santa himself took care of personally delivering
the new plane at a specially convened welcome ceremony at Sydney Airport
today.
The new aircraft will serve the growing number of routes that Tiger is flying in and out of Sydney including the new Sydney – Mackay route commencing tomorrow and the recently announced Sydney – Coffs Harbour route which takes flight from 15 February 2013.
Having launched its Sydney base in July this year Tiger Airways Australia has created hundreds of new jobs on the ground and in the air throughout 2012.
With five brand new destinations announced in 2012 (Cairns, Adelaide, Hobart, Mackay and Coffs Harbour) Tiger Airways’ promise to give a fare go to more Australians remains on course as it launches its latest two routes this week and in the process offers the gift of affordable travel to customers wanting to fly directly between Sydney and Mackay and between Melbourne and Mackay.
Carly Brear, Tiger Airways Australia Commercial Director says that Tiger goes where demand dictates and in the case of Mackay, which was a front runner in Tiger Airways’ recent online ‘where next’ poll, the demand has been overwhelming.
“As the only low fare airline flying directly between the two biggest major capital cities and Mackay we aim to meet a consumer need as well as provide a welcome boost for domestic tourism and the local economy,” said Ms. Brear.
Tiger’s first service between Sydney and Mackay leaves Sydney at 6:40am and touches down at Mackay Airport at 8:05am local time tomorrow (Monday 17 December), with up to five weekly services providing 1,800 seats through Mackay and Sydney airports weekly.
A celebratory two day airfare sale begins tomorrow (17 December until midnight 18 December) with fares between Sydney and Mackay on sale from just $19.95* each way!
New services between Mackay and Melbourne launch on Tuesday (18 December) with up to four weekly services providing 1440 seats weekly through both airports.
As Tiger’s momentum continues, Ms. Brear confirms the airline’s growth plan is on track and she predicts further route announcements in the New Year.
“Tiger Australia will continue to spread its wings and we remain committed to being the consumer champion when it comes to providing value and choice for all Australians wanting to fly,” says Ms. Brear.
